Calibration

When you first receive your Ponam Gage, it is accompanied by a certificate telling the exact diameter and the allowable tolerance. With proper care and normal usage, Ponam Gages will maintain this accuracy over a considerable length of time.

However, in many types of work, it is required that gages be checked at regular intervals with masters that must be traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology. In many other cases it is desirable that gages be re-certified. This should be done in a laboratory where both temperature and humidity are controlled and stabilized.

Reconditioning

With long or severe usage, gages cannot meet certification requirements. Ponam will recondition your gages using the same precision equipment and techniques that were originally used in the manufacture.

And of course, your reconditioned gage comes certified at no additional cost to you.

Manufacturing

Ponam specializes in the manufacturing of plug and ring gages, both thread and cylindrical, supplying standard and special sizes in Unified and American National, Buttress, Acme, Stub Acme, Metric, Multi lead thread gages, along with pipe plug, and ring gages.

Ponam uses only Graph-Mo oil hardening tool steel, a non-deforming steel. This material is designed especially for use in precision tooling, under conditions which require high resistance to both wear and abrasion. Its non-seizing properties are of particular advantage in producing smooth working gages.

All Ponam gages are lapped within an 8 micro-inch finish for closer tolerances and long-wear characteristics. A rockwell hardness of 58-63 is maintained on all our gages.

Ponam Master Gage Blocks and Master Thread Measuring Wires are certified on a regular scheduled basis and are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Temperature, humidity and dust are kept under the most rigorous control. Ponam’s inspection equipment, the most modern available, is kept in a clean and accurate state at all times, and a continuous record of these conditions is on file at our facility.
